Watch out for the dropbears

Before heading out to hike the nearby Bicton Hill Circuit Track in Clump Mountain National Park, I was warned by a fellow WWOOFer “Watch out for the dropbears”.

For those who are unaware – dropbears ‘are unusually large, vicious, carnivorous marsupials related to koalas that inhabit treetops and attack their prey by dropping onto their heads from above’ (Wikipedia).

But keep reading. ‘They are an example of local lore intended to frighten and confuse outsiders and amuse locals’. Well at least there’s one less thing in Oz that can kill me!

All ready to go like a real trooper…

…I headed to see the views from Clump Mountain, and they didn’t disappoint.20140703-145929-53969610.jpg

But the best part of the (very easy and quick) hike, was the path through the trees in the afternoon sun, without any bears dropping onto my head.
